Facilities & essentials

Is bedding included?

Yes. Sheets, pillows and duvets are included with your backpacker dorm stay.

Are towels included?

Towels are not placed in the backpacker dorms. You can borrow one free from reception, with no deposit required. Return it to reception; a NZ$10 penalty applies if it is missing or damaged.

What bathroom facilities are provided?

Bathroom sharing depends on the unit. In the 6-bed studio, six guests share one bathroom. In the two-bedroom unit, the 6-bed mixed room and a separate 4-bed room (mixed or female-only) share one bathroom between up to ten guests. The female-only room does not have a female-only bathroom. Toiletries and a hairdryer are provided in each unit. Compare the 6-bed layouts. A communal toilet on Level 1 is also available for overflow.

Where can I cook?

Please use the communal kitchen for cooking. The kitchen is open 24/7 and has a hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, cookware and cutlery. The separate area outside the bathroom in the backpacker units is mainly for washing up and making hot water with a kettle. It is not a cooking area; please prepare meals in the communal kitchen.

Is there a fridge in my room?

Most dorm rooms have a fridge, except the eight-bed mixed dorm. Contact reception to confirm fridge availability for your allocated room. A fridge is also available in the communal kitchen.

Is laundry available?

The Level 2 laundry is open 24 hours a day. A wash costs NZ$3 and a dry costs NZ$3. Pay by card only at the pay station. Detergent sachets are available from reception for NZ$1 during reception hours.

Is Wi-Fi included?

Yes. Free, unlimited Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and common areas.

Is there a gym on site?

The on-site gym is free for guests to use from 7am to 11pm daily. Your guest swipe card provides access. See the gym photo and shared facilities.

Is there a restaurant on site?

Saffron Restaurant & bar is in the same Old Railway Station building at 26 Te Taou Crescent. Open Tuesday–Sunday, 11am–2:30pm and 5pm–9:30pm. Meals and drinks are purchased separately. See Saffron’s CBD menu and check current opening hours with the restaurant.

Do I have a locker?

Each guest has a locker. One swipe card opens your locker, dorm door and the building access doors. Return your card before leaving to avoid a penalty. Lockers fit normal luggage, but not large suitcases; large suitcases can stay in the room. Ask reception about storing valuable luggage there.

Sharing the space

What are the quiet hours?

Quiet hours are 9pm–7am. Keep dorms quiet and be considerate of other guests in communal areas.

Can I have visitors?

Visitors are welcome in communal areas before 9pm. Visitors are not permitted inside the dorm units. We recommend registering visitors at reception.

Can I drink alcohol?

Alcohol is not permitted inside the dorm rooms. You can drink at Saffron bar.

Are pets allowed?

No. Pets are not permitted at Georgie Accommodation.

Can I smoke or vape?

Smoking and vaping are not permitted indoors.

Is there a minimum age?

Guests are normally required to be 18 or over. Guests aged 16–17 may stay with parental approval arranged with us before booking; permission can be sent by email or text message. Children under 16 are not permitted in the backpacker dorms.

Can I stay long term?

Yes. Long stays are welcome. Contact reception to discuss availability and your stay; very long-stay rates are discussed with reception.

Bookings & payments

Can friends book together or reserve a whole dorm?

Yes. Whole-dorm bookings for groups should be arranged well in advance, ideally two to three months ahead, and depend on availability. We generally do not move existing guests to make room for a group. Contact us before booking to discuss staying together.

How do I book and pay?

Check current rates and availability on our booking page. Online and credit-card payments are accepted. A 3% credit-card surcharge applies. Select your dorm type and review its payment and cancellation terms before paying. For refundable rates with the standard policy, cancel before 2pm Auckland time on the day before your scheduled arrival for free cancellation. Non-refundable rates do not include free cancellation.

What is the NZ$50 card authorisation?

We require a NZ$50 card pre-authorisation as security for your stay. This temporarily holds funds on your card; it is not an upfront payment or an extra accommodation charge. The authorisation allows us to apply a charge if needed under the terms of your stay. It is separate from your accommodation payment through Cloudbeds. The hold is automatically released within 3–7 business days. Release instructions are sent after checkout on the same day.

What is the cancellation and no-show policy?

Cancellation depends on the rate you choose. Non-refundable rates do not include free cancellation and may charge the full stay at booking. For refundable rates with the standard policy, cancel before 2pm Auckland time on the day before your scheduled arrival for free cancellation. Cancellations from that deadline onward and no-shows are charged the full price of the booked stay. Check the terms and payment schedule for your selected rate in Cloudbeds before paying. If anything is unclear, contact Georgie before booking.

How do I contact Georgie?

Call 021 444 889 (from overseas: +64 21 444 889). After reception closes, use this number for the duty person. Email info@georgie.co.nz for help with your stay.

Is Georgie the same as Grand Central Hotel?

Georgie Accommodation is the backpackers business, separate from Grand Central Hotel. Use Georgie’s booking information and policies for your stay. The reception desk is in the shared building and displays Grand Central signage.
